Exhibitions of Art, Memory, and Movement

At the Root Garden and Gallery Exhibitions

At The Root Garden & Gallery supports the practice of art as a powerful tool for connecting to history, identity, and the environment. Through exhibitions, installations, and creative workshops, we use visual storytelling to explore land memory, cultural resilience, and the everyday beauty found in our neighborhood. Our art is rooted in place and guided by purpose, reflecting the stories that live in gardens, kitchens, and shared public spaces.

We embrace a wide spectrum of creative expression — from functional art and textiles to intuitive mark-making, text-based word art, and work that centralizes stories and storytelling. Our exhibitions are often framed by an educational lens, inviting viewers to engage critically with themselves and their surroundings in layered and accessible ways by questioning themselves, their awareness, their understanding, and their analyses.

Upcoming Exhibit:

Cotton Tales: The Story of Cotton in the Rise and Fall of the Port of Galveston

An art-based exhibit uncovering Galveston’s cotton-fueled rise, revealing hidden histories of wealth, labor, and resistance.
